In my book, Do You Have the Guts to Be Beautiful, I discuss the Green Drink, and why it’s such a great way to start your day. That recipe is a good starter for anyone new to the Green Drink, but my own personal version has evolved over the last few years. I wanted more fiber and more greens in my Green Drink, and this is what I (along with my husband and two daughters) now eat every morning. I like to use chilled water (and frozen fruit works, too), as the smoothie is yummiest when cold.
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup each of flax, chia, and sunflower seeds
- 1 tsp milk thistle seeds
- 1 frozen banana
- 1-2 cups of seasonal fruits, fresh or frozen, to taste. I like something with polyphenols like blueberries or red seedless grapes.
- ~10 medium sized green-leaves… basically, as many dark, leafy greens as you can stuff into your Vitamix, including kale, collard greens, parsley, etc.
- Water
Directions:
Put seeds and milk thistle in blender. Blend until powder-like. Add one cup of water and continue blending. Add fruits and vegetables, and then slowly add additional water while blending. Blend until liquefied, or until smoothie has reached desired consistency.
